Academic Integrity
Please keep the importance of Academic Integrity in mind -- your work should be your own, no matter where you do it or how you submit it! It is important to ensure that the work you hand in is your own, whether it’s a small homework assignment or a larger writing assignment or test. Our Handbook says, “Cheating in any form is not tolerated at CCS. Cheating is cause for immediate disciplinary action which could lead to a loss of credit, Saturday workday, suspension, or a possible recommendation for expulsion. Forms of cheating include, but are not limited to: copying or allowing someone to copy work, homework, projects, or research papers, plagiarism, and use of online translators.” If you aren’t sure what counts as cheating or plagiarism, you can ask your teacher or Ms. Platt in the Writing Center. We’ll provide support and instruction to help you avoid it, but making sure you do is primarily your responsibility.Attendance
At this time, all classes at CCS are in a face-to-face format with no provisions for at-home or remote learning.
Tardies
A student is considered tardy if he or she arrives after the late bell to class has sounded (8:20 AM every day except Wednesday, when the late bell sounds at 9:15 AM). Students are expected to arrive to class with all necessary materials, ready to begin class.
Unexcused Absences
A student absence would be considered unexcused for any of the following reasons:
- Skipping/cutting classes or school programs (Field Day, Community Service, etc.)
- Leaving school without parental permission or school knowledge
If the Upper School administration deems an absence unexcused, the student will receive no credit for any work due or assigned on that day.
Excused Absences
A student is considered absent if he or she misses more than 25 minutes of a period, or if he or she misses more than 40 minutes of a block, whether arriving late or departing early. Absences may be “planned,” “excused (see below)” or “unexcused.” In the event of an extended absence related to a specific extended medical issue, the administration will work with the parents and students to facilitate course completion or to determine if withdrawal from the course (or school) is necessary.
Parent/Student Expectation for Missed Work during Absence
It is important to understand that any absence from school, day-long or extended, impacts a student’s ability to be successful academically. Please note that students who have missed class will receive all classwork, homework, and notes through normal modes of delivery (Canvas). It is the student’s responsibility to seek out a teacher or classmate for notes upon returning from their absence. Teachers are not required to pre-package work and/or assignments for students prior to their planned absence. Students are given one day plus one to make up work for every day missed (excused absences only). This includes work that the student was not in school to receive while absent. Longstanding assignments, tests, and projects are due upon the student’s return to class. If a student is present for any part of an academic day in which they have an assessment, the assessment must be taken on that day. Examples of this include early dismissals, partial planned absences, late arrivals to school, etc. Students are not allowed to use these reasons to miss an assessment.
